Schizophyllum commune is a basidiomycete that capable of producing different valuable metabolites such as schizophyllan-a polysaccharide, ethanol, and lignocellulolytic enzymes. Schizophyllan finds application in the food industry, pharmacy, oil recovery. It acts non-specific stimulator immune system. shows bioactivities antineoplastic, antibacterial, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic properties. S. bioethanol directly single step using lignocellulosic biomass. Lignocellulolytic enzymes including cellulase, xylanase, pectinase, laccase, lignin peroxidase, manganese are also synthesized efficiently by strains commune. Being good producer ligninolytic enzymes, has been shown to be effective for degradation various synthetic dyes. Allergic fungal sinusitis caused by Schizophyllum commune

A case of allergic fungal sinusitis (AFS) due to Schizophyllum commune was reported. The pathogen was identified using molecular bioanalysis. The patient underwent the functional endoscopic sinus surgery followed by the radical maxillary sinusotomy with canine fossa trephine. This case suggested that complete surgery allowed optimal disease clearance for AFS caused by Schizophyllum commune.
